“Open Source and the Digital Service at CMS.gov” will highlight policies, projects, and APIs CMS.gov has released. The talk will then provide an overview of government programs onboarding open source technologists into public service, such as The Digital Service, Coding it Forward, and the newly formed Digital Corps. The talk will end with a discussion of the challenges and opportunities faced when creating an Open Source Program at the Federal Agency level. Over 150 million people rely upon the code that we steward at the Agency, much of it already Open Source, and even more that could be. CMS is at the forefront of some of the biggest most complex challenges facing public health today, and if our country is going to rise to meet them, we’re going to need all the help we can get.
